Methylation status of intracellular dengue type 2 40 S RNA.

Abstract We have examined the methylation status of the dengue-2 flavivirus intracellular 40 S RNA. This RNA was found to contain a single type I cap per molecule of the form m7G(5′)ppp(5')Amp. Less than one molecule in five contained adenine base methylation either in the cap or internally. The Vero host cell poly A+ RNA was found to contain both types I and II caps as well as internal Ns-methyladenine. Possible implications of the differences between dengue virus methylation and that of the host RNA and other mRNAs are discussed.
