Discrete mine system simulation in Europe

ABSTRACT This paper traces, to the best of the author's knowledge, the evolution of discrete mine-system simulation in Europe with emphasis on surface mining systems. Although European engineers have been pioneers in mine simulation since the late 1950s, the dramatic reduction in large-scale mine development in recent years, due to environmental issues and lack of profitable deposits, had an impact on the application of simulation studies in mining projects.
