Design of an efficient Solar PV Battery Charge Controller under dynamic Motor load conditions

This paper aims to develop an efficient solar charge controller which supplies power to both a DC motor and a rechargeable battery in an electric vehicle. The battery acts as a secondary source of power to drive the DC motor in case the PV module fails to provide sufficient power. The charge controller charges the battery at two modes: Constant Current (CC) charging mode and Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) mode to efficiently charge the battery under dynamic load conditions. The modes of charging are decided on the basis of continuous monitoring of battery voltage. In CC charging mode, battery is charged at C/10 rate while in MPPT mode the charge controller aims to extract maximum power from the PV module under the impact of varying irradiance and varying load conditions. Model performance evaluation and analysis has been done through MATLAB/Simulink.
