Evaluation of spatial illuminance in buildings

Abstract The limitations of the concept of work plane illuminance in lighting design and the need for an exhaustive study of spatial illuminance in buildings have been reviewed. The basic definitions and the principles involved in the design of a cubical vectormeter have been discussed. A cubical vectormeter designed and fabricated for measuring spatial illuminance in actual rooms is described and the results of typical measurements for tropical clear sky conditions are presented.
