Considering the demand of ready to use drug in an elegant dosage form and to preserve the efficacy of drug for longer time, the present study was planned to prepare a herbal wound healing gel. Kwatha and Swarasa. Panchavalkala (the barks of five plants viz. Vata - Ficus bengalensis Linn., Udumbara - Ficus glomerata Roxb., Ashwattha - Ficus religiosa Linn., Parisha - Thespesia populnea Soland. ex Correa., Plaksha - Ficus lecor Buch. Ham.), Nimba - Azadirechta indica A. Juss (Bark) and Kumari – Aloe vera Linn. (leaf) respectively were selected for the preparation of herbal wound healing Gel. Total five batches were prepared to develop the SMP after preparing many trial and errors. Raw drug samples, in process i.e. Kwatha and Swarasa and finished product i.e. Gel, were compared on physicochemical parameters i.e. pH (between 6 to 7), loss on drying (between 94 to 95), water soluble extractive value (between 5 to 6), alcohol soluble extractive value (between 4 to 5), etc,. Qualitative tests reveal presence of tannin, phenols and saponin in Gel. HPTLC profile shows some comparable picks among in process and Gel samples indicates presence of some similar compounds.
