Review-vane type Magneto-rheological damper

Very less research is conducted on limited angle Magnetorheological (MR) damper compare to continuous angle Magnetorheological dampers. Despite of fact that limited angle MR damper cannot rotate continuously but can have ability to produce more damping torque than continuous angle MR dampers. There can be several applications of vane type MR dampers on which research can be conducted for example in automobile seat suspension, in airplane, in buildings and bridges etc. In this paper, an overview of recent advances in limited angle MR damper are presented, in terms of different structural design, magnetic circuit configuration, modelling techniques and ease of maintenance. The review separates the difference in design of different type of vane type MR dampers with arc valve, with outer coil valve and with inner coil valve. Problems concerned to ease of manufacturing, maintenance, leakages, structure and shape particularly highlighted.
