Design and analysis of a permanent magnet synchronous motor for elevator applications

With the advent of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), not only efficiency of elevator systems increased but also mechanical tensions decrease significantly. In this paper comprehensive design of PMSM for gearless elevators will be evaluated and Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to modeling of the designed motor. Fractional pitch slots, number of slots and the harmonic components will be analyzed and evaluated. The new designed motor is manufactured and compared to an existing 4KW PMSM in market. The torque and efficiency performance of the both motors will be analyzed and compared by using the simulation and the test results.
