Teaching mathematical modelling

Teaching mathematical modelling in one of the new universities is a challenging task. In this paper we outline one of the courses given at the University of Glamorgan in which we use a computer algebra system or CAS. After an initial description of the content and format of the course we proceed by considering a fully worked problem encapsulating the spirit of the course. Thereafter, we conclude by reviewing some of the student feedback. We also comment upon the relative advantages and disadvantages of constructing and teaching a course in such a manner as this.
