Building Information Modeling (BIM) is expanding its influence in various field of architecture, engineering, construction and facility management (AEC-FM) industry. As one of promising direction of BIM application, automated code compliance checking has been available and explored by several domain experts. This paper mainly focuses on the development of high-level methods for rule-making, which is essential process done in the initial stage of the automated code compliance checking. Requirements for the compliance checking is documented in natural language rules, thus translation is needed to convert them into explicit computable rules. The high-level methods translate verbal phrases in building sentences and represent condition, properties and action of objects in computable form. This paper analyzes building permit related code in Korea to define, classify and demonstrates the high-level methods within the computable rule called KBimCode. The findings are expected to be useful as a guideline for the development of computable rule for an automated building permit system in Korea.
