This paper presents the effects of square, circular and pentagonal shaped ground planes on the VWSR and axial ratio characteristics of a probe-fed, circularly polarized, pentagonal patch antenna designed on grounded dielectric (/spl epsiv//sub r/=2.2 and 4.5) substrates. The degradation of 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth with increase in substrate permittivity is emphasized here along with the effects on VSWR characteristics.
