Practice of Bivariate Quadratic Simplicial Splines

We concentrate on bivariate simplicial splines (B-splines) from the point of view of the user. A recapitulation of the relevant parts of the theory is given. A number of processes are described which are fundamental in applications: evaluating and differentiating B-splines, constructing approximation spaces, satisfying boundary conditions, and using control points and inner products. Each of these items is extensively illustrated. A test problem from the field of finite elements is presented.
