Fighting Decoherence With Pointer Engineering

Fighting decoherence has become a major chagenge in the last years, motivated by recent progress in the theory of quantum information processing, which relies on the possibility of preserving quantum coherence. It is also of interest to high-precision frequency measurements in ion traps. Several strategies have been devised, including quantum error correction schemes, feedback implementations, the realization of q-bits in symmetric subspaces decoupled from the environment, and dynamical decoupling techniques.
