Spectral maps from intraocular tumors by a new imaging technique using a modified echographic B-mode instrument

A new imaging technique that combines spectral maps with the conventional B-mode display was applied to eyes affected by intraocular tumors in order to characterize tissutal structure. Here we describe a modular system for the evaluation of the application of the proposed technique in clinical practice. With a modified echographic B-mode equipment, the radio frequency ultrasound signal and the relative scanning transducer position are sampled, digitized and stored by a two-channel acquisition system for a whole scanning period (freezing function).
