Separation of Space-based ADS-B Signals with Single Channel for Small Satellite

Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a main technology in air traffic control. The reception of ADS-B signal by the spaceborne payload can achieve global surveillance of aircrafts, but imposes a technical challenge: a high number of aircrafts cause overlapping signals, which leads the system do not fulfill the requirements of an operational surveillance system. This paper proposed two methods to separate overlapped ADS-B signals with single antenna: the adaptive threshold adjusting technology is used based on estimation of the overlapped signals’ power to separate signals, while another method is to reconstruct one of the overlapped signal and separate it from mixture. By reconstruction and cancellation, the mixed signal can be separated one by one.
