The measurement of rotational power loss in electrical sheet steel using a vertical yoke system

Abstract We have studied the measurement of power losses under rotating induction and alternating induction, the direction of the linear induction being rotated in the sample's plane. A vertical double-yoke system was used as the magnetic circuit, and the field quantities were determined using the field-sensing and the watt-metric methods. The comparison shows that the particularly simple watt-metric method suffers from a relatively large systematic error. To analyze and reduce this error the flux distribution in the sample was measured and the influence of the different yoke laminations and sample shapes were studied.
