Power electronic system optimisation for remote area mini grid diesel systems

In recent years both Australian and international research efforts have been directed at the goal of introducing remote area power supply systems based on configurations of diesel powered generation equipment, photovoltaic cell arrays, wind generators, battery storage, and power conditioning. An overview of work carried out in Western Australia is given. Results are presented of an advanced hybrid system which utilizes a sine-wave power conditioner operating in synchronism with the diesel. The economic analysis included indicates that the new system is cost effective compared to the diesel-only option.<<ETX>>
