산업단지 환경오염이 배후도시 주거환경 만족도에 미친 영향

Since 1962,South Korea has accomplished the rapid economic growth based on the manufacturing industry. And the driving force of this growth is industrial complexes which have been formed from 1962. Like other industrial countries, as the large scale industrial complexes with the big possibility that has caused serious environmental problems have been formed in Korea, the environment around the industrial complexes has considerably deteriorated. A typical example of such cases is Siwha Industrial Complex located in the capital area. Siwha Industrial Complex was developed to form industrial belt in the West coast such as providing new industrial spaces for it, transferring unqualified factories within the capital area to it and extending the territory. But as the industrial area was formed as the industrial city without enough reviews, social and environmental problems occurred. The purpose of this thesis is to examine how the environmental pollution from the industrial complex affects on the amenities of residents who live in the residential districts nearby the industrial complex such as Siwha New Town. The result of the survey shows that the majority of residents in Siwha New Town decided to move in Siwha mainly because of the convenient access to the work place and affordable housing price. Therefore, the majority of survey respondents do not want to settle down and are now considering to move to other cities due to the low quality of schools and the lack of convenient social infrastructure rather than the offensive odor from the industrial complex. Nevertheless many residents highly concern the stench as the most problematic issue in the town regardless of the distance between the residential and industrial areas. Accordingly, the evaluation grade on how the inhabitants in the town feel about residential environment turns out to be somewhat low. The results of the survey also indicate that the level of satisfaction with educational environment and public security scored the lowest evaluation grade. Additionally, the survey result also shows that the residents in Siwha tend to consider the growing number of foreign workers in town may be an impediment factor for the quality of life in Siwha in the future.
