Traffic Flow Equilibrium Analysis of Urban Road Networks Under Bicycle Impacts

This paper proposes a new analysis model of equilibrium traffic flow in road networks full of bicycles, based on measurement of practically variable travel time, that considers the effect of travel time and its variability on drivers' route choice. The filtering-decision pattern of drivers on the condition of degraded networks is captured in the new model properly. A case study shows that the practical efficiency of traffic networks is improved by over 25% of the total travel time and the safety of the bicyclist is ensured after an optimal arrangement of road space between bicycles and vehicles.
