A glance at any recent daily news bulletin typically includes several mentions of artificial intelligence (AI) solving real-world problems. AI is everywhere: from cars that drive themselves, to chatbots that diagnose common health problems, to handwriting recognition, the simple term ‘AI’ is used to describe how these problems have all been ‘solved’ – so why does ‘AI’ not have a solution for all the seemingly simple problems in academic publishing?
