The Changes of Translators' Thinking in the Chinese-English Translation

The translation,a rendering from one language to another,is not only a linguistic activity but a thinking process. The difference of thinking between the two languages influences their conversion inevitably. In this paper, the author expounds the major changes of translators' thinking in the Chinese-English translation, such as the changes from paratactic to hypotactic thinking, from spiral to linear thinking, from a complete harmony to a rigid division of subjects and objects, and from visual to abstract thinking.By illustrating many typical examples, the author analyzes the necessity of the changes in thinking and draws a conclusion that only in this way we translators can have our translation works fluent, lifelike, readable, popular and suitable to the majority of the readers in the English-speaking countries.
