Sustainable concrete construction

Construction is probably the largest industry in the developed world. It accounts for approximately 10% of UK Gross Domestic Product. However, all construction activities have a major effect on the environment. The operation of buildings consumes more energy than any other activity, and consequently Ilfetime efficiency of bulldings is a major determinant of total energy demand. The manufacturing and transportation of building materials accounts for approximately 25% of energy used by UK industry. Buildings also have a major effect over a long period on several generations. Therefore, the construction industry has a unique role to play in sustainable development.
