1.5 kW, S-band solid-state pulsed power amplifier with digitally controlled automatic gain equalizer circuit

This paper describes fabrication and experiment of a 1.5 kW solid-state pulsed power amplifier with automatic gain equalization circuit for radar application. The solid-state pulsed power amplifier consists of parallel RF power modules to obtain a high RF power of more than 1.5 kW. Each power module has a series 8-cascaded power amplifier. Overall dimension of the amplifier is 39x29x15.6cm3 . Experimental results show peak output power of 1.8 kW, corresponding to PAE of 25% over a frequency range of 2.7 - 3.1 GHz with a pulse width of 100 musec and a PRF of 1 kHz.
