Development of a process improvement matrix to measure community level sustainability and resilience: A collaborative case study of Rochester, NY, USA

In order to reach systemic sustainability, efforts and activities will need coordination beyond a single entity and across a community. Common ground and common opportunity exists between community sustainability development and community resilience. The Rochester Sustainability Collaborative organized their collective efforts and applied a qualitative and quantitative indicator framework to assess the current state of participants' sustainability programs. A workshop format supported a discussion of gaps in community level capability, resulting in recommendations for improving participants' sustainability programs and collaborative opportunities for development. From this case study, we illustrate the current state of resilience by examining the overlapping indicators and opportunities for community sustainability and resilience.
