An overview of power quality

The quality of the electric power available to the end user is a matter of increasing concern to the power systems engineer. In many ways most of electric power engineering has been devoted to the enhancement of the quality of the power supply since the beginning of the use of electricity as a primary source of energy. However, in recent times, the proliferation of a wide variety of microelectronic devices into the electric power system has caused the issue of power quality to become one of critical importance to both the supplier and the user of electricity. This presentation reviews the power quality problem. its causes, proposed methods for mitigation of the problem and current and future associated research activities.<<ETX>>
