Drilled Shafts—A Database Approach

A database of 43 drilled shaft load tests of high quality has been developed to study parameters that affect the axial behavior of drilled shafts and methods of analysis to predict axial capacity. The database of load tests is restricted to drilled shafts that provide detailed, accurate documentation of the load test and construction procedure. The database is used to determine the effects of construction, geometry, and soil conditions on the capacity of drilled shafts. Results of the study suggest greater uncertainties are associated with the development of tip capacity for drilled shafts constructed with slurry than equivalent shafts constructed under dry conditions.
