Method for providing information using moving pictures and apparatus thereof

PURPOSE: A method for providing information by using motion pictures and an apparatus therefor are provided so that a network traffic can be reduced by transmitting the motion pictures to a user, extracting an object selected by the user, and connecting the user to an Internet address having detailed explanations of the object or dealing with the object. CONSTITUTION: A user watches motion pictures including movies, advertisement or soap operas through an Internet(110). When the user selects one of the objects of the motion pictures by a mouse or keyboard in order to get detailed information(120), a frame value including the object selected by the user and pixel coordinates of the object are inputted(130). Thereafter, a region corresponding to the input frame and the pixel coordinates of the frame are divided according to a region division technique for dividing a region according to colors, shapes, areas or boundaries, and thus the region including the object selected by the user is extracted(140). The extracted region is compared with shape information of object information(150). The shape information corresponding to the extracted region is searched, and description information connected to the shape information is extracted(160). The description information is displayed on a screen, or the user is connected to an Internet address selling the object or including detailed explanations of the object(170).
