Model updating by energy approach for rotating shafts

Finite element model updating with respect to experimental modal data for rotating structures requires accounting for left and right complex eigenmodes in the general case. A direct energy approach can easily be extended to such a case. The theoretical formulation is first presented in the particular case of a rotating shaft mounted on hydrodynamic bearings, then applied to a simple shaft model including mass, stiffness and damping parameters.
