NEW TECHNOLOGIES FOR WATER AND COST SAVING IN IRRIGATION FOR URBAN AREAS

Water is a precious and indispensable natural resource, an element fundamental to the creation of beauty and positive vibrations in the public green spaces or the private gardens. By adopting innovative technologies for the management of irrigation systems, we can safeguard water resources without having to forgo the benefits, besides freeing up human resources for work of higher occupational value. This article sets out a comparative analysis of the different watering solutions adopted for the city of Treviso (Italy), looking at the policies, usage levels and operating costs at various stages of system development. The outcome of this project is of great interest, showing as it does that a 50%-plus saving in water usage is obtainable, compared to an all-manual system, and achievable even in the scenario of an art-heritage city presenting notable environmental and installation constraints. Publication of these results is important, as they reveal that the application of innovative technologies and solutions managed via the internet can deliver a flexibility and accuracy in control unimaginable hitherto, and this in turn opens up the prospect of more exact and round-the-clock supervision where watering requirements are concerned.
