Lupu Arch Bridge, Shanghai

The Luban Road river crossing in Shanghai, China, is part of the city's north-south viaduct. The main technical criteria for the design (road type, design speed, maximum longitudinal grade, deck width, navigation clearance, design load, pedestrian load, seismic load) are listed. A box-arch bridge was selected for the final design. The bridge span and profile, arch rib, girder and crossbeam, wind braces, columns, suspenders and horizontal cables, foundations and abutment are described. The construction of the steel arch rib and the main span deck-girder are outlined. The research work conducted to meet the design and construction requirements of the bridge is listed.
