An acoustic investigation of the interactive dynamics of speech motor performance

An experiment on speed-accuracy tradeoff in rapid speech production is reported. Five adult male subjects were asked to repeat three syllables (pa, ta, and ka) separately with different speeds while attempting to maintain articulation accuracy. The results indicate a strong interaction between speed and accuracy and provide a model analogous to Fitts relation among movement time, movement amplitude, and accuracy.<<ETX>>
