Computing Science Projects at the University of Glasgow

The Computing Science department makes heavy use of projects for teaching the essential techniques of software development. This paper discusses how we gather, allocate, manage and assess these projects. Clearly, when a large number of projects are involved there needs to be central control of the process and the mechanisms (including IT mechanisms) for simplifying the management are discussed. The paper also shows how the projects provide benefits in terms of administration, teaching and research quite separate from the educative benefit to the students.
