EM modeling of periodic microstrip reflectarrays using Scale-Changing Technique

An efficient numerical technique called Scale Changing Technique (SCT) based on 2D domain decomposition of array geometry has been applied for the electromagnetic scattering analysis of periodic reflectarrays. The phase shift introduced to a plane wave under any arbitrary incidence at the reflector plane obtained by SCT is validated using a Finite Element Method (FEM) based commercial simulation tool. The high flexibility of this original approach is much better than the FEM based software in time costing. Moreover the modular nature of SCT makes this technique more suitable for rapid parametric study and design optimization as compared to its industrial counterparts.
