An internal model control approach to event-based control

In this work, an alternative event-based control configuration is presented. The proposal is based on the Internal Model Control (IMC) configuration. As a major difference with existing event-based controllers, the sampling is applied here to the uncertainty estimation signal as it is understood within the IMC scheme. The event generator is therefore based on the combination of a prediction structure and the symmetric send-on-delta (SSOD) sampling scheme. Stability and robustness analysis are conducted and it is shown that the robust stability constraint can be expressed in the same terms as the time-driven (non event-based) IMC. This suggests the idea of tuning the controller from a non event-based perspective and translate the resulting controller into its IMC equivalent for implementation purposes. Some examples are provided that show the effectiveness of the approach.
