discrete and continuous data. However, in its original form, it has the disadvantages of being complicated and laborious, sometimes requires iteration, and can lead to inconsistencies (McQuitty, 1955). By application of a particular theory of types (McQuitty, 1966) all of these problems can be solved, and a very simple method of hierarchical analysis can be developed, called Similarity Analysis by Reciprocal Pairs, applicable to both discrete and continuous data.
