Arrival Generators for Queueing Simulations.

Abstract : The paper presents two methods for modeling cyclic inputs to a congested system in a discrete event digital simulation. Specifically, it is assumed that the interarrival times follow a probability distribution whose parameters are functions of time. Assuming that the conditional interarrival times follow a given underlying distribution, the mean or a function of the mean is expressed as a linear combination of harmonic components whose coefficients can be determined by stepwise regression. The results can in turn be used in generating the desired inputs for simulations. Examples based on sample data are used to illustrate the two models and to evaluate their goodness of fit. (Author)
