Reconnection of Open Wye-Open delta transformers for loss reduction and load balance

This paper presents a transformer rearrangement technology to improve unbalance and loss for distribution systems. With regard to transformer rearrangement, the objective function including the cost of loss reduction and switches is formulated in this paper. The Genetic Algorithm is adopted to find out the phase assignment of transformer in the searching process. To verify the efficiency of the proposed method, a practical distribution feeder is demonstrated by using a distribution load flow. With three transformer rearrangement modes, the daily system losses and unbalance factors are solved for comparison. Results can be shown that the proposed methodology is valid and available.
