Wideband Planar Tightly Coupled Dipole Transmitarray

A wideband planar tightly coupled dipole transmitarray (TCDT) is presented in this paper. Using receiver-transmitter configuration, the advantages of tightly coupled dipole array are exploited in our design to tackle with the bandwidth limitation of traditional transmitarray element. The interconnected stripline is utilized to compensate the differential spatial phase delay based on the true-time-delay (TTD) concept. The designed unit-cell periodicity is about 0.3λ0, where λ0 is the free space wavelength at the highest frequency. Simulated results demonstrate that the proposed wideband transmitarray can operate in 9.5~16GHz with stable radiation pattern. To the author’s knowledge, it is the first time that a planar tightly coupled dipole transmitarray has been reported.
