Simulation Package foraNewSensorless Control Strategy forPM Synchronous Machines andBrushless DC Machines

A novelcontrol strategy, applicable to Permanent MagnetSynchronous Machines (PMSMs) and Brushless DC Machines(BLDCMs),was investigated andmodelled byan academic teamin collaboration withNEC Electronics EuropeGmbH. The companyhas recently developed a new microcontroller, basedonasimple sensorless control principle ofPMSMs,whichisequally applicable to Brushless DC Machines. The use of the new microcontroller indrive systems wasmodelled bythe research teamattheuniversity usinga Visual C++ environment and was comparedwithtraditional control methods. Extensive simulations werecarried outandtheresults validated thenewcontrol principle, whichissimple toimplement andcosteffective ifusing the novelNEC Electronics Europe GmbH microcontroller. Theperformance obtained proves the novelcontrol strategy tobeatleast aseffective asthe classical ones, atreduced cost. Typical applications are inthewhite goodsindustry.
