This volume contains 55 papers covering many aspects of geotechnical issues associated with waste disposal. The papers represent advances during the intervening decade since the first ASCE Specialty Conference on this topic, Geotechnical Practice for Disposal of Solid Waste, Ann Arbor, Michigan 1977. The specific topics considered range from clay liners to waste site cleanup. Major contributions are included in the areas of fly ash utilization, permeability measurements, applications of geomembranes, liner compaction, dredged materials, groundwater, hazardous wastes, landfills and barriers, diffusion and dispersion in groundwater and soils, leachates, and quality control/quality assurance. Regulatory issues are also discussed as they pertain to design, construction, and monitoring waste facilities.
