In order to ascertain the best sampling time and improve north-seeking precision(NSP) in given time for multi-position gyroscope north seeker(MPGNS),the relation between the north seeking error of MPGNS and the sampling time is studied. The academic error of FOG north-seeking is compared with the north-seeking experiment result for the two-position FOG north seeker, and the self-relativity of FOG's static data is analyzed in theory,by which the law that the north seeking error of MPGNS changes with the sampling time is gained, that is,there are four north seeking results when the sampling time is increased: NSP is lower,NSP is stable,NSP is higher, and the north-seeking error increases. The reasons why the north-seeking experimental error is lower than the academic result and NSP is not always improved with the increase of sampling time are analyzed. The concept of sampling time limit is put forward, and the sampling time limit of prototype is 120 s.Rules and the method of selecting the best sampling time are put forward, which could guide the design of MPGNS and improve the north-seeking precision.
