Antimould action of some biocides mixed with glues used in paintings conservation

Products and methods containing freshly-made glue preparations are constantly used in paintings restoration. The application of moist organic matter onto old paintings can favour biodeterioration processes, caused by heterotrophic organisms, when the restored object is placed in an unsafe environment with relative humidity above 75 percent. In some cases the addition of a biocide in the glue preparation, could protect the restored object, for a short critical period, delaying the biological development. This operation must be done only in extreme cases as the mixing of biocides with the glue seems to induce a reduction of its adhesive properties.
