TRAILBLAZING:VIDEOPLAYBACK CONTROL BY DIRECTOBJECTMANIPULATION

Wedescribe anewinteraction technique that allows users to control nonlinear video playback bydirectly manipulating objects seeninthevideo. Thisinteraction technique issimilartovideo "scrubbing" wheretheuseradjusts theplayback timebymoving themousealong aslider. Ourapproach is superior tovariable-scale scrubbing inthat theusercanconcentrate oninteresting objects anddoesnothavetoguess howlongtheobjects will stay inview. Ourmethod relies on avideo tracking system that tracks objects infixed cameras, mapstheminto 3Dspace, andhandles hand-offs between cameras. Inaddition todragging objects visible invideo windows, users mayalso dragiconic object representations onafloor plan. Inthat case, thebestvideo views areselected forthedragged objects.
