A novel and optimal method for locating and sizing of capacitors in distribution systems based on reactive power identification

In this paper, a novel and optimal procedure is introduced for sizing and locating of capacitor banks along a feeder. The procedure is based on the identification of reactive power along a feeder. In the proposed method, the reactive power of the capacitor bank located in a point is proportional to the reactive power consumption in the point. Therefore, reactive power compensation is perfectly performed and loss minimization is achieved. Also it would be possible that the number of capacitor locating points is reduced, then the reactive power of capacitor banks is increased; further, the cost of reactive power compensation is also reduced.
