Numerical estimations of propagation characteristics and interference path loss due to personal electric device in a commercial aircraft cabin

Electromagnetic field distributions established in a commercial aircraft, Boeing 777 class large passenger aircraft, due to a personal electric device are evaluated. We use FDTD technique and a large-scale parallel computing technique to precisely estimate the EMF distributions. In order to evaluate EMF characteristics including the whole structure of the aircraft such as the wings and engines, the dimensions of the aircraft model used in the analysis are as accurate as possible. Based on field distribution analyses, interference path loss for aircraft communication and navigation receivers from a 2 GHz band wireless transmitter inside the cabin are obtained statistically.
