Qualitative Simulation of Electrical and Mechanical Systems

This paper describes a qualitative simulation method for electrical switching circuits in which variables have atomic values such as low and high. Although this method can be applied to switching circuits, it cannot be used to simulate the behavior of a system such as an hydraulic system. This is because the values of the variables need to be described in more detail. This paper explains why more numerical information is required for the hydraulic system and then describes a qualitative simulation method for simulating one. In this method, fuzzy sets are used to represent approximate values and behavior is described using fuzzy arithmetic operators and fuzzy rules.
