PIRACY TODAY: ROBBERY AND VIOLENCE AT SEA SINCE 1980

In his introduction, the author states that piracy is as rife today as ever, with 400 armed attacks on shipping recorded during the period from 1980 to 1984. Part 1 traces the history of piracy and describes current incidents of piracy in various parts of the world. Other chapters in Part 1 deal with such topics as maritime terrorism, the impact of international law on possible action against piracy by world authorities, and precautions that ship and yacht masters should take. Part 2, Atlas of Piracy, consists of a series of maps indicating the location of reported incidents of piracy. Part 3 presents a chronological log of attacks on shipping, organized by geographical areas.
