Development and Evaluation of a Text Mapping Strategy

Networking is a content-independent text learning stragegy that requires the student to transform text material into two-dimensional maps. Key ideas (nodes) are related to one another by a set of six empirically derived relationships (links). This chapter consists of a presentation of the historical and theoretical foundations of networking, a description of the empirical assessments, a comparison of networking with spatial text strategies developed in other laboratories, and a discussion of the future of networking.
