KlimaHaus CasaClima - a regional energy certification system stimulates low energy architecture

Department for air and noise of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Bolzano, Italy ABSTRACT: This paper presents a success story in the field of low energy buildings in Europe. In 2002 the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol introduced a energy certification system for buildings. As a result, the share of low energy buildings considerably grew. This paper first describes the Klimahaus Casaclima project itself and the factors for its success. Then the development of certified buildings in general is shown and in detail the one of passive house technology, where the project had a particular strong impact. Finally the results of a survey on owners of certified buildings about KlimaHaus CasaClima conducted last year by the “Eco Institute are discussed.
