A study on fault-tolerant control and operation of serial production systems

Discrete event systems have attracted much attention in the area of system modeling and control-law synthesis. Within this framework, this paper is devoted to study the fault-tolerant supervisory control of serial production systems by incorporating the idea of multi-agent control with the supervisory control scheme. This forms an integrated action of cooperative agent supervisors endowed with high autonomy and the least common information for the fault-propagation control. Throughout this paper the concept of mutual fault-tolerance between serial processes is established and the synthesis of agent supervisors is investigated based on this concept.
