A Generalized Ritz-Least-Squares Method for Dirichlet Problems

A new projection method for the approximate solution of Dirichlet’s problem is formulated and error estimates are given. The resulting method does not require subspaces satisfying any boundary conditions or inverse assumptions. The corresponding linear system is shown to have conditioning properties similar to those of the classical Ritz method.
